One of my favorite fashion items is a nice t-shirt and jeans. It's versatile, popular and looks great. You can make just a few outfits look like many by mixing and matching t-shirts you already have. For example, take a nice pair of blue jeans, match it with a tank top or t-shirt of any color and then add a scarf that would match. Another thing I love to do is dress up that old pair of jeans by adding a vest or blazer over your t-shirt. Put on a pair of ladies shoes and your set for a more professional look. Word of advice though, if you are looking for a more professional look, like the one I just described, please don't use badly faded torn blue jeans. You must have a decent pair for that look. You don't want to look tacky. I also love to take my blue jeans, pair them with a sweater for winter wear. If you have a few of those skinny jeans hanging around in your closet, like I do, then a long sweater paired with the skinny jeans looks great and is especially in fashion for winter. Summer time is fun too. I like to take an old pair of blue jeans that do have a few worn and torn places, cut them off and make some shorts. So there you have it, my favorite fashion wear with a twist.

The other day I was out shopping for groceries, and heading to the cash register when the strap on my (obviously) too old purse gave way. There lay the contents of my bag split out for all to see it was carnage. At that moment I made a vow to myself to find the most sturdy bag available, as to never have to see my somewhat personal items laid bare, and thus my purse buying odyssey began. My first instinct was to look online, but then It dawned on me that I wouldn't be able to accurately judge a bags sturdiness via pictures, so I settled on a trip the mall. I was browsing all kinds of small bags: clutch bags, purses and wallets. Purse shopping is normally an easy-going event, but when you start to scrutinize every stitch and clasp it can become a bit wearisome. I'm not sure if it was the third or fourth store I visited, as it's all a blur by that point, but there it was... the bag I was looking for. It wasn't ornate, but a simple dark brown leather satchel bag. It's entire construction out was from one sheet of leather, so I didn't have to worry about seams ripping, or handles tearing free. It goes with about everything I own, except for when I'm sporting black, and is a fair size to hold all my necessities. I just want everyone to know: the perfect bag does exist, and it's hanging on my door knob as I type, so fear not - the perfect handbag is only one exhausting trip to the mall away. |

Now the snowy season is upon us (I live in the southern hemisphere) - I'm often seen in my wellingtons trudging through the snow, lamenting the fact I can't wear my my favorite shoes which are New Balance 927s. These are walking shoes, which are right for me as I no longer run, skip, or jump. The soles of these shoes are quite flat and are stiffened through the arch to prevent rolling to the side. This is good for me because I wear a brace due to a ruptured sub-talar tendon. Orthopedists and orthotic specialists often recommend 927s because of their stability. I have a white pair and two black pairs of 927s, which feel about the same to my feet. I wear the white shoes in summer because I think black shoes with shorts look dorky and the black New Balances look better with jeans. The shoes are comfortable for long periods. I wear them for hiking in the mountains and for walking in the city, and the shoes keep me going much better than any others I have tried since my orthopedic problems arose. |

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! Absolutely, and why not? My office has closed early due to inclement weather and I've got 2 full weeks off - my fridge is full of beer and snacks, my freezer full of festive foods like turkey and mince pies - I don't need to go anywhere, so bring on the snow and let's have a truly white Christmas this year!
I feel for those people stuck at Heathrow, but then I think - guys, give it up - go back home and write off the holiday and enjoy a rare white Christmas at home! Go outside with your kids and have a snowball fight, go sledging, build a snowman.
I've bought everyone pashmina shawls this year as it's so bitterly cold - I just hope they use them and don't spend all their time in doors - though I wouldn't blame them! |

I only ever got pregnant once and the day the doctor confirmed my pregnancy I was in a state of total disbelief. True, we had been trying for a baby but because I was already in my forties I didn’t really expect to get pregnant, and certainly not so quickly as we had been trying for only two months. After I got home I spent time planning what it would be like to have a daughter. First off, I bought some nursing dresses - yes I was planning that far ahead!
I imagined the pink room I was going to create for her. I went right through the growing up process, imagining taking her to ballet classes as a ten year old and even going on shopping trips for teenage fashion clothes, just as my mother had done with me. I had already phone my husband with the good news and when he got home he mentioned the baby and asked me how it felt to be carrying him. My husband was right. My son Marc is now 17 years old, he never had a pink room or went to ballet and I don’t accompany him on clothes buying trips. |

Men do not understand all that is involved in a woman getting ready for a great evening out. From the sexy lingerie underneath, to the external fashion accessories like evening bags, we have so much to prepare!
We have to choose a dress, shoes and search through our evening bags until we find the perfect one that matches our outfit. For men it is so easy they shower, shave and throw on some clothes. There are limited accessories men have to choose from in the first place. But I look at it this way just because men do not have as many options, do not get frustrated when women have to take longer to find the perfect add on to our wardrobe. Maybe we can all hope that the men’s bags become more popular so then they can have more options open to them as well. But right now there is such a strong stigma on those bags it is not favorable for all men to wear them right now. |

Choosing the right pair of sunglasses can be a very important part of your look. Blinde makes high fashion sunglasses in the $100 to $300 range. The glasses were originally designed in late 1998 as part of the futuristic but oh so official uniform worn by the characters in the movie the Matrix. The glasses were designed so well that another pair was fashioned for Angelina Jolie to wear in her role on Tomb Raiders. So many people demanded the glasses that they were manufactured for retail sale and a new fashion accessory company was born. Blinde offers sunglasses that look great with a $6000 Armani suite or a latex and lace body suite.
Created by famed athlete and designer, Richard Walker for the movie the Matrix in 1998 the Blinde brand of sunglasses became so popular they were skyrocketed to the scene. The glasses created for the Matrix were so popular that Richard Walker was enjoined to create a pair of glasses for Angelina Jolie to wear in her movie Tomb Raider. Known for cool no nonsense sleek lines and smooth curves the glasses are worn by many celebrities. The choice of sunglasses should include your personal style, the shape of your face and the clothes you wish to wear with them. Blind sunglasses offer a sleek rounded look. |

While jewelry is often associated with the finest princess diamonds and precious stones, for me jewelry is all about more personal things - how it was made, and the reason you want to wear it.
My favorite jewelry is a piece that was hand crafted by one of my dear friends from grade school. We went to school together for twelve years and took jewelry class together in high school. She thrived on this craft, went to art school, and has become a successful designer. I own several things that she has made, but my favorite is a necklace with a large amethyst pendant. There are little violet beads above the amethyst drop. The amethyst has different shades of purple, from very light lavender to dark purple. The amethyst dangles from a thick silver chain. This piece is the perfect accent for a simple outfit. I like wearing it with an all black outfit, and I match it with earrings that my friend also created. Not only do I really enjoy the piece, but I am able to think of the great times I had with my friend when I wear it. I get many complements and can proudly say that I know the creator. |

From my own experience, I can tell you that a long, happy marriage does not require a costly wedding and fancy gold wedding rings. Forty eight years ago when my husband and I were married we opted for a small wedding with only close family and close friends in attendance. When this was decided, one of my aunts offered the use of her beautiful home. Another one of my aunts had a beautiful flower garden and she decorated with them for the wedding and they were more beautiful than if a florist had done them. Another aunt bought the wedding cake. My parents provided everything else from my wedding dress to the flowers for me and the attendants. We had the minister of our choice to perform the ceremony. All of these years later, I remember that afternoon so vividly. It was a beautiful Spring day and we were surrounded by love and since my family came together in such a wonderful way, the expense was minimal. |
